Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify and understand the concept of colors, including naming at least five different colors and recognizing them in their environment.

Materials and Prep

  • Colorful objects (toys, clothing, or household items)
  • Blank paper (for drawing)
  • Crayons or markers (if available)
  • A space to explore and play

Before the lesson, make sure to gather various colorful objects around the house and prepare a comfortable area for drawing and activities.

Activities

  • Color Hunt: Go on a color hunt around the house or yard. Ask the student to find objects of different colors. For example, "Can you find something red?" Once they find an object, encourage them to name the color out loud.

  • Color Sorting: Gather a few colorful objects and have the student sort them into groups based on their colors. You can say, "Let's put all the blue things together!" This helps them recognize and categorize colors.

  • Color Drawing: Give the student blank paper and crayons or markers. Encourage them to draw something using their favorite colors. You can ask, "What colors are you using? Can you tell me what you're drawing?"

Talking Points

  • "What color is this? Can you say it out loud?"
  • "Great job finding that! How many colors did you see?"
  • "Look at your drawing! What colors did you use? I love how you mixed them!"
  • "Colors are everywhere! Can you see any colors outside? What do they look like?"
