Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and name different colors, understand basic color mixing, and express their creativity through art using colors.
Materials and Prep
- No materials are needed for this lesson.
- Be prepared to ask questions and encourage the student to express their thoughts about colors.
- Have a comfortable space for activities where the student can move around freely.
Activities
-
Color Hunt: Go on a color hunt around the house or yard. Ask the student to find objects of different colors. For example, "Can you find something red?"
-
Color Mixing Fun: Talk about primary colors (red, blue, yellow) and how they can mix to make new colors. You can say, "What do you think will happen if we mix red and yellow?"
-
Art Time: Encourage the student to draw or paint using their favorite colors. Ask them, "What colors are you using? Why do you like them?"
-
Color Songs: Sing a fun song about colors together. You can make up a song or use a familiar tune and change the words to be about colors!
Talking Points
- "What color is this? Can you say it out loud?"
- "Did you know that when we mix blue and yellow, we get green? That's like magic!"
- "Look at all the colors you chose for your art! What do they make you feel?"
- "Can you find something in the room that is the same color as your favorite toy?"
