Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify and understand basic shapes, including circles, squares, and triangles, through fun activities and games.

Materials and Prep

No additional materials are needed for this lesson. Just a playful attitude and a willingness to explore shapes!

Activities

  • Shape Hunt: Go on a shape hunt around the house or yard. Ask the student to find objects that match the shapes you discuss. For example, "Can you find something that is a circle?"

  • Shape Drawing: Have the student draw shapes on a piece of paper. You can guide them by saying, "Let's draw a big square together!"

  • Shape Sorting: Create a shape sorting game where the student can group objects by their shapes. You can say, "Let's put all the circles in one pile and all the squares in another!"

  • Shape Songs: Sing a fun song about shapes together. You can use simple tunes and add in the shapes as you sing. For example, "Here is a circle, round and round!"

Talking Points

  • "What shape is this? It's a circle! Circles are round, just like a ball!"
  • "Look at this square! It has four sides that are all the same length!"
  • "Triangles have three sides. Can you count them with me? One, two, three!"
  • "Shapes are everywhere! Can you find a shape in this room? Let's look together!"
