Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will understand the concept of colors, be able to identify primary colors, and recognize some objects that are these colors in their environment.
Materials and Prep
- Colorful objects (like toys, fruits, or pieces of paper)
- Open space for activities
- A list of colors to discuss (red, blue, yellow)
Before the lesson, gather colorful objects from around the house. Make sure the student can see and touch these items easily.
Activities
-
Color Hunt: Go on a treasure hunt around the house or yard to find objects that match the primary colors. The student can collect these items in a basket.
-
Color Sorting: After the hunt, sort the collected items by color. This will help the student learn to categorize objects based on their colors.
-
Color Dance Party: Play some music and have a dance party where the student dances with objects of different colors. When the music stops, call out a color, and they must find and hold up something of that color!
Talking Points
- "What color is this? Can you say it with me? It's red!"
- "Look around! Can you find something blue? Let's see who can find it first!"
- "Great job sorting! Why do you think we put the yellow things together?"
- "Let’s dance! When I say 'green', find something green to hold! Ready, set, go!"
