Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will understand the basic concept of numbers and counting from 1 to 10 through engaging and interactive activities. They will be able to recognize and verbally count numbers while having fun!
Materials and Prep
- No materials are required for this lesson, as all activities can be done using the student’s fingers, voice, and imagination.
- Be prepared to encourage the student to count out loud and to use their fingers for counting.
Activities
-
Finger Counting: Have the student hold up their fingers and count each one out loud. You can start with one finger and gradually increase to ten. Encourage them to say the numbers as they count.
-
Counting Objects: Ask the student to find small items around the house (like toys or blocks) and count them one by one. You can say, "Let's find 5 toys and count them together!"
-
Number Songs: Sing a simple counting song together, like "Five Little Ducks" or "Ten in the Bed." This will help reinforce the numbers in a fun way.
-
Jump and Count: Have the student jump up and down and count each jump aloud. For example, "Let's jump and count to 10 together! One, two, three..." This adds movement and excitement to counting!
Talking Points
- "Can you show me how many fingers you have? Let's count them together!"
- "How many toys can you find? Let's count them one by one!"
- "Singing helps us remember numbers! Can you sing along with me?"
- "Jumping is fun! How many jumps can we count? Let's see!"
