Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will understand the basic concept of colors, be able to identify primary colors, and recognize how colors can mix to create new colors.

Materials and Prep

For this lesson, no additional materials are required. Just ensure the learning space is comfortable and free from distractions. You may want to have some colorful objects around for the activities.

Activities

  • Color Hunt: Go on a color hunt around the house or yard. Ask the student to find objects of a specific color, like red or blue. This will help them learn to identify colors in their environment.

  • Color Mixing Fun: Use imaginary colors! Ask the student to pretend to mix colors. For example, "What happens when we mix yellow and blue?" Encourage them to think creatively about the new colors they can create.

  • Color Storytime: Read a short story that features colorful characters or objects. After reading, ask the student to point out the colors they remember. This reinforces color recognition in a fun way.

  • Color Dance Party: Play some music and have a dance party! When the music stops, call out a color, and the student must freeze and show something of that color. This combines movement and learning in a fun way!

Talking Points

  • "Look around! Can you find something that is red?"
  • "When we mix yellow and blue, what color do we get? That's right, green!"
  • "What was your favorite color in the story? Can you tell me why?"
  • "Let's dance! When I say 'stop,' find something that is the color blue!"
