Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and name different colors, understand the concept of mixing colors, and create their own colorful artwork using only their imagination!
Materials and Prep
- Different colored crayons or markers (red, blue, yellow, green, etc.)
- White paper for drawing
- Water in a cup (for a fun mixing activity)
- Small containers for mixing colors (optional)
Before the lesson, make sure to have a clean space for the activities. It's also helpful to have a towel nearby for any spills during the mixing activity.
Activities
-
Color Hunt: Go on a color hunt around the house or outside. Ask the student to find objects of different colors and name them together. This will help reinforce their understanding of colors in the world around them.
-
Color Mixing Fun: Use the water and small containers to mix colors. For example, mix red and blue to see what new color they create! Let the student predict what color will come next before mixing.
-
Art Creation: Give the student the white paper and crayons or markers. Encourage them to draw a picture using as many colors as they can. Ask them to tell a story about their artwork once they are done!
Talking Points
- "Can you point to something red? What about something blue?"
- "What do you think will happen if we mix yellow and blue? Let's find out!"
- "Wow! Look at all the colors you used in your drawing. Can you tell me what your picture is about?"
- "Colors are everywhere! Can you see any colors outside? What colors do you see?"
