Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and name different colors, understand how colors can mix to create new ones, and express their creativity through color-related activities.
Materials and Prep
- Colorful objects (toys, crayons, or clothes)
- Paper (any kind, it can be plain or colored)
- Water (for mixing colors, if possible)
- Small containers (for mixing colors, if applicable)
Before the lesson, make sure to gather all colorful objects around the house. You can use toys, clothes, or even crayons. Prepare a space where the student can explore colors freely.
Activities
-
Color Hunt: Go on a treasure hunt around the house to find items of different colors. Ask the student to name each color they find, and encourage them to collect one item of each color.
-
Color Mixing Fun: If you have water and containers, fill each container with water and add a few drops of food coloring (if available). Let the student mix different colors together and observe what new colors they create!
-
Color Art: Using the paper, ask the student to draw or paint using their favorite colors. Encourage them to use as many colors as they can and to tell you about their artwork.
Talking Points
- "Look at all these colors! Can you tell me what color this is?"
- "What happens when we mix blue and yellow? Let's find out!"
- "Wow, your drawing is so colorful! What colors did you use?"
- "Colors can make us feel happy or calm. How does this color make you feel?"
