Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will have a better understanding of the concept of numbers and counting through engaging activities and fun discussions. The student will be able to count from 1 to 10 and recognize the numbers visually and verbally.
Materials and Prep
- No additional materials are needed for this lesson. Everything will be done verbally and through interactive play.
- Be ready to use your fingers for counting and to create a fun counting song!
- Prepare to ask questions and encourage the student to think about numbers in everyday life.
Activities
-
Finger Counting: Use your fingers to count from 1 to 10. Show each number on your fingers and encourage the student to do the same. You can say, “Let’s count our fingers together!”
-
Number Song: Sing a fun counting song together, like "Five Little Ducks" or "Ten in the Bed." This will help reinforce the numbers in a playful way. Say, “Let’s sing a song about numbers!”
-
Counting Objects: Look around the room and find objects to count, like toys or books. Ask the student, “How many toys do we see? Let’s count them together!”
-
Number Stories: Create a simple story that includes numbers, like “There were 3 little cats who wanted to play.” Encourage the student to add to the story and count along. You can prompt with, “What happens next? How many cats are there?”
Talking Points
- “Can you show me how many fingers are in one hand? That’s 5!”
- “When we count, we are saying how many things we have. Let’s count together!”
- “Numbers are like magic! They help us know how many things are around us.”
- “Counting is fun! What other things can we count? Maybe the stars or your toys?”
