Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and name different colors, understand their importance in everyday life, and express their preferences for colors through fun activities.

Materials and Prep

  • Colorful paper or cardboard (red, blue, yellow, green, etc.)
  • Crayons or markers
  • Simple color flashcards (can be made from paper)
  • Access to a window or outdoor space for a nature walk

Before the lesson, prepare the color flashcards and gather the colorful paper or cardboard. Familiarize yourself with basic color names and their uses in everyday life.

Activities

  • Color Hunt: Go on a color hunt around the house or outside. Ask the student to find objects of different colors and name them as they go.
  • This activity encourages observation and helps the student connect colors to real-world objects.

  • Color Mixing: Using crayons or markers, let the student experiment by mixing colors on paper to see what new colors they can create.
  • This hands-on activity teaches the student about primary and secondary colors, while also allowing for creative expression.

  • Color Flashcard Game: Use the color flashcards to play a matching game. Show the student a card and ask them to find an object of the same color.
  • This game reinforces color recognition and helps build memory skills.

  • Color Art Project: Have the student create a colorful picture using the paper or cardboard. Encourage them to use as many colors as possible.
  • This allows the student to express their creativity while practicing color identification.

Talking Points

  • "Can you tell me what color this is?"
  • "What is your favorite color? Why do you like it?"
  • "Look at the flowers outside! What colors do you see?"
  • "When we mix red and yellow, what color do we get? Let's try it!"
