Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and name different colors, understand their basic meanings, and identify objects in their environment that match those colors.
Materials and Prep
- No special materials are needed for this lesson.
- Be prepared to explore colors in everyday objects around the home.
- Know the basic colors: red, blue, yellow, green, orange, purple, black, and white.
Activities
-
Color Hunt: Go on a treasure hunt around the house to find objects of different colors. Ask the student to find something red, something blue, etc. This will help them connect colors to real-world items.
-
Color Sorting: Gather a few items of different colors (toys, clothes, etc.) and have the student sort them into groups by color. This activity enhances their understanding of color classification.
-
Color Art: Encourage the student to draw or paint using different colors. Discuss the colors they are using and ask them how they feel about each color.

- "How many colors can you name? Can you say them with me?"
- "What color do you like the most? Why do you like that color?"
- "Look at your drawing! What colors did you use? What do they remind you of?"
