Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and name different colors, understand the concept of mixing colors, and create their own colorful artwork using simple techniques.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper (any kind)
  • Crayons or colored markers
  • Water (for mixing colors if using washable markers)
  • A small container (for mixing colors)
  • Old newspaper or cloth (to protect the surface)

Before the lesson, prepare the workspace by covering the surface with old newspaper or cloth to keep it clean. Make sure the student has a comfortable place to sit and work.

Activities

  • Color Hunt: Go on a color hunt around the house or yard. Ask the student to find objects of different colors and name them together. For example, "Can you find something red?"

  • Mixing Colors: Using washable markers, show the student how to mix two colors together in the small container with water. Ask them to predict what color will happen when you mix blue and yellow. Let them see the result!

  • Art Creation: Give the student paper and crayons or markers and encourage them to create their own artwork using the colors they found and mixed. Ask them to tell a story about their artwork.

Talking Points

  • "What color is this?" (pointing to an object during the color hunt)
  • "When we mix blue and yellow, what do you think will happen? Let's find out!"
  • "Look at all the colors you used! Can you tell me about your picture?"
  • "Colors are all around us! What is your favorite color and why?"
