Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and name different colors in their environment, understand the concept of mixing colors, and express creativity through color-related activities.

Materials and Prep

  • Colorful objects (toys, clothes, or any items around the house)
  • Paper (any kind will do)
  • Crayons or markers (if available)
  • Water (for mixing colors)
  • Small containers (like cups or bowls for mixing)

Before the lesson, gather colorful objects from around the house and prepare a space where the student can explore and create without distractions.

Activities

  • Color Hunt: Go on a treasure hunt around the house to find objects of different colors. As the student finds each item, ask them to name the color and describe it. For example, "What color is this toy? Can you say 'red'?"
  • Color Mixing Fun: Using water and the small containers, mix different colors together (if using food coloring or paint, make sure to supervise closely). Let the student see how blue and yellow make green! Encourage them to predict what will happen before mixing.
  • Creative Coloring: Provide paper and crayons or markers. Ask the student to draw something using their favorite colors. Encourage them to explain their drawing and the colors they chose. You can say, "What colors did you use? Why did you pick those colors?"

Talking Points

  • "Look at all these colors! Can you find something that is blue?"
  • "When we mix yellow and blue, what color do you think we will get? Let's find out!"
  • "Wow! You made a beautiful picture! Can you tell me what you drew?"
  • "Colors are everywhere! What is your favorite color and why do you like it?"
