Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and name different colors, as well as identify objects around them that match those colors. This will help enhance their vocabulary and observational skills.

Materials and Prep

  • Colorful paper or fabric scraps (red, blue, yellow, green, etc.)
  • Crayons or markers in various colors
  • Everyday objects from around the house (toys, clothing, books, etc.)
  • A small box or container to collect colored items

Before the lesson, make sure to gather colorful items from around the house and prepare a comfortable space for the activities. Familiarize yourself with the basic colors and have fun examples ready to share!

Activities

  • Color Hunt: Go on a color scavenger hunt around the house. Ask the student to find objects that match specific colors you call out. For example, "Can you find something red?"

  • Color Sorting: Use the colorful paper or fabric scraps to sort items by color. Create piles for each color and encourage the student to help you sort them.

  • Color Drawing: Give the student crayons or markers and ask them to draw a picture using their favorite colors. Encourage them to talk about the colors they are using.

  • Colorful Story Time: Read a short story or a picture book that highlights colors. Ask the student to point out the colors they see on each page.

Talking Points

  • "What color is this? Can you say it out loud?"
  • "Look at this toy! What color is it? Can you find something else that is the same color?"
  • "Great job sorting! Why do you think we put these together?"
  • "What colors did you use in your drawing? Can you tell me about your picture?"
