Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify and name different colors in their environment, as well as understand the concept of mixing colors to create new ones.
Materials and Prep
- No special materials are needed for this lesson.
- Before starting, make sure to find colorful objects around the house (like toys, clothes, or books) to use as examples.
Activities
-
Color Hunt: Go on a mini adventure around the house to find objects of different colors. Ask the student to name the colors of the objects they find.
-
Color Mixing Fun: Use imaginary paint to mix colors. Ask the student what happens when you mix red and blue. Encourage them to pretend to mix colors and describe the new colors they create.
-
Color Story Time: Read a short story or make up a fun story that includes lots of colors. Ask the student to point out colors as you read.
-
Color Dance Party: Play some music and have a dance party. As you dance, call out a color and ask the student to dance like that color (e.g., "Dance like the color blue!").
Talking Points
- "What color is this? Can you find something else that is the same color?"
- "When we mix red and blue, what color do we get? Let's pretend to mix them!"
- "Can you tell me what colors you see in this story? Point them out!"
- "Let's dance! Can you dance like a green frog? Or a yellow sun? Show me!"
