Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and name different colors, understand how colors mix to create new ones, and express their creativity through colorful activities.

Materials and Prep

  • Various colored items (toys, clothes, or blocks)
  • Paper (any color)
  • Crayons or markers (if available, any colors)
  • Water (for mixing colors)

Before the lesson, gather all colored items around the house and prepare a safe space for activities. Make sure to choose a place that can get a little messy if water is involved!

Activities

  • Color Hunt: Go on a color hunt around the house! Ask the student to find items of a specific color. For example, “Can you find something red?” This helps them learn to identify colors in their environment.

  • Color Mixing: Use water to mix different colors together. Start with blue and yellow to see what happens! Say, “Let’s mix these colors and see what new color we can make!”

  • Colorful Creations: Use paper and crayons or markers to create a colorful masterpiece. Encourage the student to use as many colors as they like. You can say, “Let’s make a rainbow with all the colors we have!”

Talking Points

  • “What color is this? Can you say it out loud?”
  • “When we mix blue and yellow, what color do we get? Let’s find out!”
  • “Look at all these beautiful colors! Which one is your favorite?”
  • “Colors are everywhere! Can you point to something that’s red?”
