Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize basic shapes and colors, as well as understand how to identify them in their environment.
Materials and Prep
- No specific materials are needed for this lesson.
- Be prepared to explore the environment around you, both indoors and outdoors.
- Know the names of basic shapes (circle, square, triangle, rectangle) and colors (red, blue, yellow, green).
Activities
-
Shape Hunt: Go on a shape hunt around the house or yard. Ask the student to find objects that match the shapes you name. For example, "Can you find something that is a circle?"
-
Color Matching Game: Look for items of different colors and match them. For instance, "Let's find all the red things in the room!"
-
Shape Drawing: Encourage the student to draw shapes in the air with their finger or on a surface. Say, "Can you draw a big triangle with your finger?"
-
Colorful Dance: Play music and have the student dance around. When the music stops, call out a color, and they must find something of that color to hold while they dance!
Talking Points
- "What shape is this? Is it a circle, square, or triangle?"
- "Can you show me something in the room that is red? Look around!"
- "Shapes are everywhere! Can you find a shape outside?"
- "Great job dancing! What color did you find? Was it blue or yellow?"
