Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize numbers 1 to 10 and understand basic counting through fun and engaging activities.
Materials and Prep
- Paper
- Crayons or markers
- Small objects for counting (like buttons, blocks, or toys)
- A timer (optional, for timed activities)
Before the lesson, gather all materials and choose a comfortable space for the activities. Make sure to have a fun and encouraging attitude!
Activities
-
Counting with Objects:
Use small objects to practice counting. Ask the student to count out loud as they place each object in a line. For example, "Can you find 5 buttons? Let's count them together!"
-
Number Drawing:
On a piece of paper, have the student draw numbers from 1 to 10. Encourage them to color each number differently. You can say, "Let's make our numbers colorful! What color will you use for the number 3?"
-
Number Hunt:
Hide numbers around the room and have the student find them. When they find a number, they should say it out loud. You can say, "Wow! You found the number 7! Can you show me 7 fingers?"
-
Counting Songs:
Sing a fun counting song together, like "Five Little Ducks" or "Ten in the Bed." Encourage the student to sing along and do hand motions. You can say, "Let’s sing about our counting friends! Can you flap your arms like a duck?"
Talking Points
- "Numbers help us count things! How many toys do you have?"
- "Look at this number! What number is this? Can you show me that many fingers?"
- "Counting is like a game! The more we count, the better we get!"
- "Every number has its own special place. Can you find the number 2 in our number hunt?"
