Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to understand the basic concepts of numbers and counting through fun activities and engaging games.
Materials and Prep
- Paper
- Crayons or markers
- Small toys or blocks (to use for counting)
- Timer (optional, for timed activities)
Before the lesson, gather all materials and ensure a comfortable space for the activities. Familiarize yourself with simple counting concepts to explain to the student.
Activities
-
Counting with Toys:
Use small toys or blocks to practice counting. Ask the student to count each toy as they line them up in a row.
-
Color and Count:
Have the student draw a picture and then count how many items they drew (like stars, trees, or animals). Encourage them to color it in afterward!
-
Number Hunt:
Hide numbers around the room (you can write them on paper) and have the student find them. When they find a number, they should say it out loud and count up to that number.
-
Counting Song:
Sing a fun counting song together, like "Five Little Ducks" or "Ten in the Bed." Use hand motions or dance to make it more engaging!
Talking Points
- "Can you tell me how many toys we have here? Let’s count them together!"
- "What number did you find? Can you show me how to write that number?"
- "How many stars did you draw? Let’s count them one by one!"
- "Do you remember the song we sang? Let’s sing it again and count along!"
