Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and identify different shapes and colors through engaging activities, enhancing their observational skills and creativity.
Materials and Prep
- Colorful paper or cardboard cutouts of various shapes (circle, square, triangle, rectangle)
- Crayons or markers
- Glue or tape
- Scissors (with supervision)
Before the lesson, ensure the student understands basic colors and can recognize simple shapes. Prepare a safe space for crafting activities.
Activities
-
Shape Hunt:
Go on a shape hunt around the house or yard. Look for objects that match the shapes cutouts. For example, find a round ball for a circle or a square box.
-
Colorful Collage:
Using the colorful paper cutouts, create a collage by gluing the shapes onto a larger piece of paper. Encourage the student to arrange them in any way they like.
-
Shape Dance:
Play some music and dance! When the music stops, call out a shape, and the student must freeze in a shape that matches the one called.
Talking Points
- "Can you find something in the room that is a circle? What color is it?"
- "Look at this triangle! Can you tell me how many sides it has?"
- "Let's make a collage! What shapes do you want to use?"
- "When the music stops, show me your best shape! Can you make a square with your body?"
