Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will understand the concept of colors and be able to identify and name at least five different colors in their environment.

Materials and Prep

  • No materials needed, just your eyes and a smile!
  • Be ready to explore colors in everyday objects around your home.
  • Think of some fun color-related questions to ask during the lesson.

Activities

  • Color Hunt: Go on a color hunt around the house! Ask the student to find objects of different colors. For example, "Can you find something red?" This encourages movement and exploration.

  • Color Sorting: Gather a variety of objects (toys, clothes, etc.) and help the student sort them by color. You can say, "Let’s put all the blue things together!" This helps with categorization skills.

  • Color Art: Use crayons or markers to draw pictures using different colors. Ask the student to name the colors they are using as they draw. You can say, "What color is this crayon?" This promotes creativity and color recognition.

Talking Points

  • "Look around! What colors do you see?"
  • "Can you find something that is the same color as your shirt?"
  • "What happens when we mix red and blue? Can you guess?"
  • "Colors can make us feel happy! What color makes you feel happy?"
