Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and name different colors, understand basic color mixing, and create their own colorful artwork.
Materials and Prep
- Crayons or markers
- White paper
- Water and a small container (for mixing colors)
- Optional: A few small objects of different colors (to use as examples)
Before the lesson, make sure to have a clean workspace and gather all materials. Familiarize yourself with basic color names and mixing concepts.
Activities
-
Color Hunt: Go on a color hunt around the house or yard. Ask the student to find objects of specific colors and bring them back to the workspace.
-
Color Mixing Experiment: Use water and a small container to mix primary colors (red, blue, yellow) to create new colors. Let the student observe and name the new colors they create.
-
Art Creation: Give the student white paper and crayons or markers to draw their favorite colorful picture. Encourage them to use as many colors as they can!
Talking Points
- "Can you find something red? What about something blue?"
- "Look! When we mix yellow and blue, we make green! Isn't that cool?"
- "What colors do you want to use for your drawing? Let's make it as colorful as a rainbow!"
- "Why do you think colors are important? What do they make you feel?"
