Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to understand the concept of numbers and counting through fun activities that engage their curiosity and creativity.
Materials and Prep
For this lesson, you will need:
- Paper
- Crayons or markers
- Small toys or objects (like blocks or buttons)
- Counting songs or rhymes (you can sing them!)
Before the lesson, make sure you have a comfortable space to sit and play. Gather all materials so they are ready to use!
Activities
-
Counting with Toys: Use small toys or objects to practice counting. Ask the student to line them up and count how many there are. You can say, "Let's count these toys together! How many do we have?"
-
Number Drawing: Give the student paper and crayons to draw their favorite numbers. Encourage them to say the number out loud as they draw. You can say, "Wow! You're making a big number 3! Can you tell me what comes after 3?"
-
Counting Songs: Sing counting songs together. Use simple tunes and encourage the student to sing along. You can say, "Let's sing our counting song! Can you help me count to 5 while we sing?"
-
Number Hunt: Hide small objects around the room and ask the student to find them while counting how many they find. You can say, "Let's go on a treasure hunt! Can you find 3 red blocks? Count them as you find!"
Talking Points
- "Numbers help us count things! Can you count how many fingers are on one hand?"
- "Every number has a special place. Do you know what comes after 1? It's 2!"
- "When we sing counting songs, we learn numbers and have fun at the same time!"
- "Finding objects and counting them is like a treasure hunt! How many treasures can you find?"
