Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and identify the number 1, understand its significance in counting, and relate it to real-life objects.
Materials and Prep
- One small object (like a toy or a fruit)
- Paper and crayons
- Space to move around for activities
- Knowledge of counting from 1 to 5
Activities
-
Counting Fun: Start by showing the student the small object and say, "Look! We have one toy! Can you count with me? One!" Let them repeat after you and encourage them to point at the object as they count.
-
Draw and Color: Give the student paper and crayons. Ask them to draw one big circle and color it in. Say, "Can you draw one big circle? That's perfect! Now let's color it together!"
-
One Step Dance: Play some music and tell the student to dance. After a few moments, stop the music and say, "Now, let's take one big step! Can you show me?" Encourage them to take one big step forward.
Talking Points
- "One is the first number we say when we count! Can you say 'one' with me?"
- "When we have one toy, it means we only have that one toy. Isn't that special?"
- "If we have one cookie, we can share it with someone! Sharing is nice!"
- "One is like a superhero! It helps us start counting all the way to big numbers!"
