Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and name different colors and understand how to mix primary colors to create new ones. This will help them develop their creativity and enhance their understanding of the world around them.
Materials and Prep
- No materials are needed for this lesson. Everything can be done using imagination and verbal interaction!
- Be prepared to ask questions and encourage the student to think about colors they see in their environment.
Activities
-
Color Hunt: Go on a color hunt around the house or yard. Ask the student to find objects of a specific color, such as red, blue, or yellow. This will help them identify and name colors in their surroundings.
-
Color Mixing Game: Use your imagination to mix colors! Ask the student what happens when you mix red and blue. Help them understand that mixing colors can create new ones, like purple!
-
Color Story Time: Create a short story that involves different colors. For example, “Once upon a time, there was a big red apple and a bright yellow sun…” This encourages creativity and color recognition.
-
Color Dance Party: Play a fun song and ask the student to dance while holding up a colored piece of clothing or an imaginary color. When the music stops, call out a color, and they must freeze in a pose that represents that color!
Talking Points
- "What color is this? Can you find something else that is the same color?"
- "When we mix red and blue together, what color do we get? Can you say it?"
- "Can you tell me a story about a colorful character? What color are they?"
- "Let’s dance! Show me your favorite color while you move!"
