Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and name different colors, as well as understand how colors can mix to create new ones. The student will also express creativity through color-related activities.
Materials and Prep
- Colorful paper (red, blue, yellow, green, etc.)
- Crayons or colored pencils
- Water (for mixing colors)
- Clear cups or jars (for mixing colors)
- Paintbrush (optional)
Before starting the lesson, ensure that the workspace is clear and safe for any activities involving water. Familiarize yourself with basic color mixing principles (e.g., red + blue = purple).
Activities
-
Color Hunt: Go on a color hunt around the house or yard. Ask the student to find objects of specific colors. For example, "Can you find something red?" Celebrate each discovery!
-
Color Mixing Fun: Use the clear cups to mix primary colors with water. Show the student how to mix red and blue to make purple. Let them try mixing colors themselves!
-
Creative Coloring: Give the student colorful paper and crayons. Encourage them to draw something using their favorite colors. Ask them to name the colors they are using as they draw.
-
Color Song and Dance: Sing a fun color song together. You can make up your own lyrics or use a familiar tune. Encourage the student to dance and act out different colors.
Talking Points
- "What color is this? Can you find something else that is the same color?"
- "When we mix red and blue, what color do we get? Let’s see together!"
- "Look at your drawing! What colors did you use? Do you like these colors?"
- "Can you sing along with me? Let’s dance like our favorite colors!"
