Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will understand the basic concept of colors and be able to identify and name at least five different colors in their environment.

Materials and Prep

  • No specific materials are needed for this lesson.
  • Be ready to explore colors in everyday objects around the home.
  • Prepare to ask questions and encourage the student to point out colors they see.

Activities

  • Color Hunt: Go on a color hunt around the house! Ask the student to find objects of specific colors, like "Can you find something red?" This will help them learn to identify colors in their environment.

  • Color Sorting: Find a few different colored items (like toys or clothes) and help the student sort them by color. You can say, "Let’s put all the blue things in one pile!"

  • Color Song: Sing a simple song about colors together. You can make up a tune or use a familiar one, like "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star," and change the words to talk about colors.

  • Color Drawing: Encourage the student to draw a picture using crayons or markers. Ask them to use at least three different colors and talk about what colors they are using as they draw.

Talking Points

  • "Look at that! What color is that object? Can you say it out loud?"
  • "Great job! Now let’s find something else that is the same color!"
  • "Colors are all around us! What color do you see in the sky?"
  • "When you mix colors, they can make new colors! What happens if we mix blue and yellow?"
