Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify and name different colors, as well as understand how colors can mix to create new ones. The student will also engage in fun activities that reinforce color recognition and creativity.

Materials and Prep

  • Colorful paper (red, blue, yellow, green, etc.)
  • Crayons or markers in various colors
  • Water and a clear container (for mixing colors)
  • Small objects or toys in different colors (like blocks or figures)

Before the lesson, make sure to gather all materials and find a comfortable workspace. Ensure the area is safe for mixing water and using crayons or markers.

Activities

  • Color Hunt: Go on a color hunt around the house or yard. Ask the student to find objects of specific colors and bring them back to the workspace. This will help them learn to identify colors in their environment.
  • Color Mixing Fun: Use the water and small amounts of food coloring to show how colors mix. Let the student drop colors into the container and watch what happens. Discuss the new colors created.
  • Colorful Art: Provide the colorful paper and crayons or markers. Encourage the student to create a picture using at least three different colors. Talk about their choices as they create.

Talking Points

  • "What color is this? Can you find something in the room that is the same color?"
  • "When we mix red and blue, what color do we get? Let's see together!"
  • "Wow, look at your beautiful picture! What colors did you use? Why did you choose those colors?"
  • "Colors are everywhere! Can you name all the colors you see around us?"
