Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and name different colors, understand how colors mix to create new colors, and express creativity through color-based activities.
Materials and Prep
- Colorful crayons or markers
- White paper for drawing
- Water for mixing (if applicable)
- Small containers for mixing colors (if applicable)
- Optional: A color wheel (you can draw one) for demonstration
Before the lesson, ensure you have a comfortable space for the activities. Familiarize yourself with basic color mixing concepts to explain them simply.
Activities
-
Color Hunt: Go on a color hunt around the house or yard. Ask the student to find items of specific colors. For example, "Can you find something red?" This helps them identify colors in their environment.
-
Color Mixing Fun: If you have water and containers, demonstrate how to mix two primary colors to see what new color they create. For example, mix red and yellow to make orange. Let the student try it too!
-
Creative Drawing: Provide the student with crayons or markers and ask them to draw a picture using as many colors as they can. Encourage them to be creative and use their imagination!
-
Color Story Time: Read a short story or make up a story that involves different colors. Ask the student to point out colors as you read or tell the story, making it interactive.
Talking Points
- "What color is this? Can you say it out loud?"
- "If we mix red and yellow, what color do we get? Let's find out!"
- "Look at your drawing! How many colors did you use? Wow, so many!"
- "Can you find something outside that is blue? Let's go see!"
