Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to understand the concept of numbers and counting from 1 to 10 through engaging activities and discussions.

Materials and Prep

  • No specific materials are required for this lesson.
  • Be prepared to use your fingers for counting and to encourage the student to use their fingers as well.
  • Have a fun, energetic attitude to keep the student excited about learning!

Activities

  • Finger Counting: Start by holding up your fingers and counting together. Show one finger, then two, and so on up to ten. Encourage the student to count along with you using their own fingers.

  • Number Jumping: Create a fun game where you call out a number between 1 and 10, and the student has to jump that many times. For example, if you say "3," they jump three times!

  • Counting Objects: Use everyday items around the house, like toys or snacks, and count them together. For instance, if you have 5 blocks, count them out loud together while pointing at each one.

  • Sing a Counting Song: Sing a simple counting song together, like "Five Little Ducks" or "Ten in the Bed." This will make counting fun and memorable!

Talking Points

  • "Let's count together! How many fingers do I have up?"
  • "Great job jumping! Can you jump 4 times? Let's count them!"
  • "Look at these toys! How many do we have? Let's count them one by one!"
  • "Singing makes counting fun! Can you sing with me? Let's count to ten together!"
