Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and name different colors, understand basic color mixing, and express creativity through art using colors.
Materials and Prep
- Crayons or colored markers
- White paper
- Water and a small container (for mixing, if using washable markers)
- Knowledge of primary colors (red, blue, yellow) and secondary colors (green, orange, purple)
Activities
-
Color Hunt: Go on a color hunt around the house or yard. Ask the student to find objects of specific colors. For example, "Can you find something red?" This encourages observation and recognition of colors in their environment.
-
Color Mixing Fun: Using two primary colors (like red and yellow), show how mixing them creates a new color (orange). You can say, "Let's mix these two colors together and see what happens!"
-
Art Time: Let the student create a colorful masterpiece using crayons or markers. Encourage them to use as many colors as possible and say, "What colors are you using? Can you tell me what you are drawing?"
Talking Points
- "What color is this? Can you find something in the room that is the same color?"
- "When we mix red and yellow, what color do we get? That's right, orange!"
- "Look at all the colors you are using! Which one is your favorite?"
- "Colors can make us feel happy! What does the color blue make you feel?"
