Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify the moon, understand its phases, and express their thoughts about the moon in simple sentences.
Materials and Prep
- None required - just your imagination and enthusiasm!
Activities
-
Moon Phases Craft: Use your hands to make different shapes in the air to represent the moon phases. Pretend to be the moon changing from a full moon to a new moon!
-
Moon Story Time: Create a short story about a little astronaut who travels to the moon. Let the student help you come up with ideas for what the astronaut sees and does on the moon.
-
Moon Dance: Play some fun music and have a 'moon dance' where you both move like you're floating in space. Encourage the student to think about how it might feel to walk on the moon!
-
Moon Drawing: Ask the student to draw a picture of the moon. They can add stars, rockets, or anything else they imagine might be in space with the moon!
Talking Points
- "The moon is a big rock in space that shines at night!"
- "Did you know the moon goes through different shapes? Sometimes it's round, and sometimes it's a little slice!"
- "Astronauts can visit the moon! What do you think they see there?"
- "The moon helps us tell time! When we see a full moon, it means it’s been a month!"
- "What would you do if you could jump on the moon? It would be so much fun!"
