Objective

By the end of this lesson, Celia will be able to recognize and name different colors in English, Spanish, and American Sign Language (ASL). She will also engage in fun activities that reinforce her learning through art, music, and movement.

Materials and Prep

  • Crayons or colored pencils
  • White paper
  • Color flashcards (red, blue, green, yellow, etc.)
  • Music player for songs
  • Open space for physical activities

Before the lesson, review the colors in English and Spanish, and familiarize yourself with the ASL signs for each color. Prepare a few songs that mention colors to make learning fun!

Activities

  1. Color Drawing: Celia will use crayons or colored pencils to draw objects in different colors. As she colors, encourage her to say the color in English and Spanish, and show the ASL sign for each color.

  2. Color Hunt: Go on a color hunt around the house or yard. Ask Celia to find objects of specific colors and name them in English and Spanish. Use ASL to sign the colors as she finds them.

  3. Color Song Dance: Play a fun song that mentions colors. Encourage Celia to dance and point to different colored objects around her as the colors are sung. This can include singing in Spanish!

  4. Color Movement Game: Create a game where you call out a color, and Celia has to jump, spin, or dance to that color. For example, “Jump to something red!” This will help her associate movement with colors.
