Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will have a greater understanding of Denmark's culture, geography, and history, as well as its significance in the world. The student will also engage in creative activities that reinforce their learning and allow them to express their understanding of Denmark.

Materials and Prep

• Paper and colored pencils or markers
• A notebook or binder for notes
• A globe or world map (optional but helpful)
• Access to a computer or tablet (optional for research)
• Preparation: Familiarize yourself with Denmark's key facts, such as its capital, language, flag, and famous landmarks.

Activities

• Creative Flag Design:

  Have the student design their own flag for Denmark! They can draw inspiration from the Danish flag, known as the "Dannebrog," and create a flag that represents their own vision of Denmark. Once completed, they can explain their design choices.

• Virtual Tour of Copenhagen:

  Guide the student through a virtual tour of Copenhagen, Denmark's capital. They can research famous sites like Tivoli Gardens, The Little Mermaid statue, and Nyhavn. Encourage them to take notes on what they find interesting about each location.

• Traditional Danish Recipe:

  Choose a simple Danish recipe (like Danish pastries or open-faced sandwiches) to make together. Discuss the ingredients and the cultural significance of the dish while cooking.

• Postcard Creation:

  Have the student create a postcard depicting a famous landmark in Denmark. They can draw or use printouts and write a short message about what they learned about that place.
