Objective
By the end of this lesson, ALEF will be able to identify the main internal organs in the human body and describe where they are located. ALEF will also learn how to express where something hurts by using the names of these organs.
Materials and Prep
- Paper and crayons or markers for drawing.
- A comfortable space to sit and talk.
- Knowledge about the basic internal organs (heart, lungs, stomach, etc.) to share with ALEF.
Activities
-
Draw Your Body:
In this activity, ALEF will draw a simple outline of a person on paper. Then, together, you can label the internal organs like the heart, lungs, and stomach. This will help ALEF visualize where each organ is located.
-
Organ Charades:
Play a game of charades where you act out different organs. For example, pretend to be a heart by holding your hands over your chest and making a beating motion. ALEF will guess which organ you are acting out!
-
Where Does It Hurt?:
Have a conversation about how to express where something hurts. Use phrases like "My stomach hurts" and encourage ALEF to practice saying this using the drawings made earlier. You can role-play by pretending to be a doctor and asking ALEF where it hurts.
Talking Points
- "The heart is like a pump that keeps your blood moving. Can you find where your heart is?"
- "Your lungs help you breathe in air! Can you take a big breath and feel your lungs?"
- "The stomach helps us digest food. What do you think happens to your food in your stomach?"
- "If you say 'My head hurts,' it means something is not right in your head. Can you point to your head?"
- "Each organ has a special job. What do you think the liver does?"
- "Remember, it’s important to tell someone if something hurts, just like you practiced saying 'My stomach hurts'!"
