Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will have a deeper understanding of King Hezekiah's life, his reign, and his significance in the Bible. They will be able to recount key events from his story and discuss the lessons learned from his faith and leadership.

Materials and Prep

  • Bible or printed passages about King Hezekiah (2 Kings 18-20, 2 Chronicles 29-32)
  • Notebook and pen for note-taking and reflections
  • Art supplies (paper, markers, crayons) for creative activities
  • Timer for activities

Before the lesson, familiarize yourself with the story of King Hezekiah and the key events during his reign, including his reforms, the Assyrian invasion, and his prayer for healing.

Activities

  1. Story Mapping: Create a visual map of King Hezekiah's life. The student can draw key events and write short descriptions next to each. This will help them visualize the timeline of Hezekiah's reign and the significant moments that defined it.

  2. Role-Playing: Choose a significant event from Hezekiah's life, such as his prayer for healing or his confrontation with the Assyrian king. The student can act out the scene, using dialogue from the Bible or their own words. This will enhance their understanding through active participation.

  3. Creative Prayer Journal: Encourage the student to write a prayer or reflection inspired by Hezekiah's faith. They can decorate their journal page with drawings or symbols that represent their thoughts and feelings about faith and leadership.

  4. Discussion Time: After completing the activities, have a discussion about what the student learned. Ask them to share their favorite part of Hezekiah's story and why it resonated with them.
