Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will understand key concepts in English, History, Math, Science, and Social Studies through engaging activities that incorporate their interest in watching Netflix. They will also learn to connect educational content with entertainment.

Materials and Prep

  • A smartphone or tablet with Netflix access
  • Notebook or digital note-taking app
  • Pens or pencils
  • Access to the internet for research
  • Prepared list of educational shows or documentaries available on Netflix

Before the lesson, familiarize yourself with some educational content available on Netflix that aligns with the subjects being taught. This will help guide the student in their viewing choices.

Activities

  • Watch and Discuss:

Select an educational documentary or series episode on Netflix related to history or science. After watching, have a discussion about the main ideas, what they learned, and how it connects to what they already know.

  • Creative Writing:
  • Math in Real Life:

Find a show that includes elements of math, like statistics or measurements. Have the student calculate something related to the episode, such as the average score of a game or the distance traveled by a character.

  • Social Studies Connection:

Choose a historical documentary and create a timeline of events discussed in the episode. This will help the student understand the sequence of events and their significance in history.

  • Science Experiment:

After watching a science-related episode, conduct a simple experiment at home that relates to the content. Document the process and results in their notebook.
