Objective

By the end of this lesson, Abby will be able to describe her favorite walking experiences and understand the importance of walking for health and happiness. She will also learn some new words related to walking!

Materials and Prep

  • No additional materials needed.
  • Make sure to choose a safe area for walking, like a park or a backyard.
  • Prepare to ask Abby questions about her walking experiences.

Activities

  • Walking Adventure:

Take Abby for a short walk around your home or neighborhood. As you walk, ask her to describe what she sees, hears, and feels. Encourage her to point out interesting things like flowers, animals, or interesting shapes.

  • Story Time:

After the walk, sit down together and create a story about a walking adventure. Abby can be the main character, and you can help her come up with fun challenges or discoveries along the way.

  • Word Hunt:

While walking, play a game where Abby has to find objects that start with the letters in the word "WALKING." For example, "W" for "water," "A" for "ant," etc. This will help her learn new words!

Talking Points

  • "What do you like to see when you go for a walk?"
  • "Can you tell me about a time you found something cool while walking?"
  • "Why do you think walking is good for our bodies?"
  • "Let's think of some fun words that describe walking! Can you think of any?"
  • "How does walking make you feel? Happy, excited, or something else?"
  • "What would be your dream walking adventure? Where would you go?"
