Materials and Prep

  • Paper and colored pencils or markers
  • Access to the internet for research (if available)
  • Notebook for notes

Before the lesson, it would be helpful to have a brief overview of Japan's geography and major cities, as well as some basic facts about its culture and traditions.

Activities

  • Japanese Culture Collage

  • Learn Basic Japanese Phrases

The student will learn and practice some basic Japanese phrases. They can create flashcards for greetings, common expressions, and numbers. This will help them get a feel for the language.

  • Cooking Activity

If possible, the student can try making a simple Japanese dish, like onigiri (rice balls) or sushi rolls. This hands-on activity will give them a taste of Japanese cuisine and its importance in the culture.
