Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to understand the importance of physical activity and its relation to cruise ships.

Materials and Prep

  • Open space for physical activities
  • Imagination and enthusiasm

Activities

  1. Warm-up: Pretend to be a cruise ship

Start by standing tall and stretching your arms out wide, imagining you are a big cruise ship sailing through the ocean. Move your body gently from side to side to mimic the swaying motion of the ship. Encourage your imagination and make sound effects like waves crashing or seagulls flying.

  2. Jumping Jacks: Count the passengers

Perform jumping jacks while counting aloud. Each time you jump, pretend you are welcoming a passenger onto the cruise ship. Count up to 10 and then count back down to 1.

  3. Balance Beam: Walk on the deck

Imagine you are walking on a narrow balance beam on the deck of the cruise ship. Walk slowly and carefully, trying to maintain your balance. You can even pretend to hold a tray of drinks or food while walking to make it more challenging.

  4. Sea Creature Yoga: Stretch like marine animals

Get down on the floor and stretch your body like different sea creatures. For example, stretch your arms and legs like a starfish, or curl up into a ball like a seashell. Use your imagination to come up with more sea creature stretches.

  5. Cruise Ship Relay: Be a crew member

Set up a simple relay race in your open space. Use markers or objects as "stations" where you have to perform different tasks related to being a crew member on a cruise ship. For example, at one station, pretend to clean the deck by sweeping the floor, and at another station, pretend to serve food by carrying a tray of imaginary plates.
