Objective

By the end of this multi-day lesson plan, Emily will have developed her own podcast from scratch. She will learn how to create a script, explore different podcast formats, record and edit her audio, and understand various podcasting platforms for sharing her work.

Materials and Prep

  • Computer or tablet with audio recording software
  • Headphones with a built-in microphone (optional but helpful)
  • Notebook and pen for brainstorming and scripting
  • Access to the internet for research and podcast platforms
  • Basic understanding of audio editing (can be learned during the lessons)

Activities

  • Brainstorming Session:

Emily will spend time brainstorming podcast ideas that interest her. She can write down topics she loves, potential guests, and what message she wants to share with her audience.

  • Script Writing:

Once she has her podcast idea, Emily will create a script. This will include an introduction, main content, and conclusion. She will learn how to structure her script to keep her listeners engaged.

  • Exploring Podcast Formats:

Emily will research different podcast formats like interviews, storytelling, and roundtable discussions. She can listen to examples of each format to see what resonates with her style.

  • Recording Day:

Using her script, Emily will record her podcast episode. She will learn about sound quality, pacing, and how to speak clearly. This will be a fun hands-on activity!

  • Editing Workshop:

Emily will learn how to edit her recorded audio. She will cut out mistakes, add music, and make her podcast sound professional. This will involve some trial and error, but it will be a great learning experience!

  • Publishing and Sharing:

Finally, Emily will explore different podcasting platforms where she can publish her episode. She will learn how to share it with friends and family, and potentially reach a wider audience!
