Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to create a visually appealing design using Canva, showcasing their creativity and understanding of basic design principles. They will learn how to use various tools within Canva to produce a project that reflects their personal style.

Materials and Prep

  • A computer or tablet with internet access
  • An active Canva account (free version is sufficient)
  • A list of design ideas or themes (e.g., posters, social media posts, book covers)
  • Optional: A notebook for brainstorming ideas

Before the lesson, ensure that the student has access to their Canva account and is familiar with the basic layout of the platform. Encourage them to explore the interface a bit before diving into the activities.

Activities

  • Design a Personal Poster:

The student will create a poster that represents their favorite hobby or interest. They can use images, text, and colors that reflect their personality.

  • Create a Social Media Post:

The student will design a fun social media post, such as an announcement for an imaginary event. They will learn to incorporate catchy text and engaging visuals.

  • Make a Book Cover:

The student will design a book cover for their favorite book or a story they create. This will help them think about how to visually represent a narrative through imagery and typography.

  • Explore Canva Templates:

The student will browse through Canva's templates and pick one to customize. This will teach them how to adapt existing designs to make them their own.
