Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to use their imagination to create and act out a short story, incorporating elements of drama such as characters, dialogue, and emotions.
Materials and Prep
- No special materials are needed for this lesson. Just your imagination!
- Prepare a comfortable space where the student can move around freely and act out their ideas.
- Think about a few simple story ideas or themes to inspire the student's imagination.
Activities
-
Story Creation: Start by brainstorming a fun story idea with the student. Ask them questions like, "What if a dragon lived in our backyard?" Encourage them to add details and characters to the story.
-
Character Role Play: Once the story is created, have the student choose a character to play. They can act out different parts of the story, using their voice and body to express the character's feelings and actions.
-
Emotion Charades: Play a game where you take turns acting out different emotions (happy, sad, surprised, scared) without using words. This helps the student understand how to express feelings through drama.
-
Improv Games: Create a simple improv game where you start a scene and the student has to add to it. For example, "I am a pirate looking for treasure!" The student can then jump in with their ideas, and you can build the story together.
Talking Points
- "What do you think our story should be about? Let’s use our imagination!"
- "How does your character feel right now? Can you show me with your face?"
- "Can you make a funny voice for your character? Let’s hear it!"
- "What happens next in our story? You can be the hero!"
- "Every time we act, we get to be someone else! Who do you want to be today?"
