Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to express their feelings and thoughts about different dances they watch or perform. They will learn to describe movements, emotions, and stories conveyed through dance.
Materials and Prep
- No specific materials are needed for this lesson, just an open space to dance and move.
- Prepare a few fun dance videos or performances to watch together, if possible.
- Be ready to encourage the student to share their feelings and thoughts about the dances they see.
Activities
-
Watch and Discuss:
Start by watching a short dance video together. After watching, ask the student how the dance made them feel. Did they like the music? Were the dancers happy or sad? This will help them connect emotions with dance.
-
Imitate the Dance:
Choose a simple dance move from the video and try to imitate it together. Encourage the student to express how they feel while dancing. Ask them, “What does this move make you want to do?”
-
Dance Storytelling:
Ask the student to create their own dance that tells a story. They can pretend to be animals, plants, or anything they like! After their performance, have them explain what their dance was about.
-
Emotion Charades:
Play a game where you both take turns showing different emotions through dance. For example, show happy dancing, sleepy dancing, or silly dancing. The other person guesses the emotion!
Talking Points
- "How did the dancers make you feel when you watched them?"
- "Can you show me a dance move that makes you feel happy?"
- "What story do you want to tell with your dance?"
- "Let’s pretend to be different animals while we dance! What animal do you want to be?"
- "How can we show a sad feeling with our dance moves?"
