Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify and communicate ways to be caring, inclusive, and respectful to others through engaging activities and discussions.
Materials and Prep
- Paper
- Crayons or markers
- Storybook about friendship or kindness (if available)
- A comfortable space for discussion and activities
Before the lesson, think about some examples of caring, inclusive, and respectful behaviors to share with the student. Prepare a cozy reading corner if you have a storybook to read together.
Activities
-
Kindness Drawing:
Have the student draw a picture of something kind they can do for someone else, like sharing a toy or helping a friend. After drawing, ask them to explain their picture.
-
Story Time:
If you have a storybook about friendship or kindness, read it together. Discuss the characters and how they showed care and respect for each other.
-
Compliment Circle:
Take turns giving compliments to each other. Encourage the student to think of something nice to say about you, and you can do the same for them.
-
Respectful Role Play:
Act out different scenarios where you can show respect and inclusion, like inviting a friend to play or helping someone who is sad. Let the student take the lead in the role-play.
Talking Points
- "What does it mean to be kind? Can you think of a time you were kind to someone?"
- "Why is it important to include everyone in our games? How does it make others feel?"
- "Can you tell me a way to show respect to someone? Like listening when they talk?"
- "How do you feel when someone is caring to you? What do you like about it?"
- "Let’s think of ways we can be caring today! What can we do together to help someone?"
