Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to apply basic math concepts while engaging in creative writing, all themed around Minecraft. The student will create a Minecraft-inspired story that incorporates math problems, enhancing both their English and math skills in a fun way.

Materials and Prep

• Paper and pencil for writing
• Access to Minecraft (optional for inspiration)
• A timer (optional)
• Basic knowledge of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division

Activities

1. Minecraft Story Creation: The student will create a short story set in the Minecraft world. They will include characters, settings, and a plot that involves a math problem. For example, "Steve needs to gather 20 blocks of wood to build a house. If he already has 5 blocks, how many more does he need?"

2. Math Challenges in Minecraft: Using their story, the student will create math challenges related to their plot. They can write problems that characters must solve to progress in the story, such as calculating how many resources are needed to craft items or how long it takes to travel between locations.

3. Sharing Time: After completing their story and math problems, the student will read their story aloud. This will help improve their speaking skills and allow them to share their creativity with others. Optionally, they can ask someone to solve the math problems they created.
