Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize fun movement songs related to health and nutrition while engaging in physical activity. They will learn the importance of healthy foods and how to move their bodies in a joyful way.

Materials and Prep

  • No materials are required for this lesson.
  • Be prepared to sing and move along with the child.
  • Know a few simple movement songs that relate to health and nutrition.

Activities

  • Healthy Food Dance: Sing a song about healthy foods while dancing. For example, you can make up a tune and say, "Let's dance like carrots and jump like beans!" Encourage the child to imitate the movements of different healthy foods.

  • Fruit and Veggie Freeze: Play a fun game where you sing a song and move like different fruits and vegetables. When the music stops, everyone has to freeze in the shape of the fruit or veggie they were imitating!

  • Exercise Time: Introduce simple exercises like stretching, jumping, and wiggling while singing a lively song about being healthy. For example, "Jump up high like a healthy frog!"

  • Colorful Food Parade: Create a parade where the child can march around while holding imaginary fruits and veggies, singing a fun song about eating the rainbow. Encourage them to move in different ways as they "carry" their colorful food.

Talking Points

  • "Do you know what foods help us grow strong? Like carrots and bananas!"
  • "Let's move like our favorite fruits! How does a banana wiggle?"
  • "Eating healthy makes us feel happy and full of energy!"
  • "Can you jump like a frog? Jumping is fun and keeps us healthy!"
  • "Look at all the colors on our plates! Eating a rainbow is so yummy!"
