Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify different foods, understand their colors and shapes, and create fun art using food as inspiration. The student will also learn about the importance of healthy eating in a playful way.
Materials and Prep
- Paper (any kind)
- Crayons or markers
- Glue (optional)
- Small food items (like cut fruits or vegetables) for inspiration
Before the lesson, gather the materials and prepare a small selection of colorful food items to show the student. Make sure the food is safe and appropriate for a 2-year-old.
Activities
-
Food Color Hunt
Take the student on a mini scavenger hunt around the house or yard to find foods of different colors. After collecting them, discuss the colors and shapes of each food item.
-
Fruit and Veggie Stamps
Using the cut fruits or vegetables, dip them in non-toxic paint or use them as stamps with crayons to create fun prints on paper. Talk about the shapes they make!
-
Healthy Plate Collage
Help the student create a collage on paper using pictures of healthy foods cut from magazines or drawn with crayons. Discuss which foods are healthy and why we eat them.
Talking Points
- "What color is this food? Can you find something else that is the same color?"
- "Look at this shape! Is it round like a ball or long like a carrot?"
- "Why do we eat fruits and veggies? They help us grow strong!"
- "Can you make a big print with this food? Let's see what it looks like!"
- "What is your favorite food? Is it healthy? Why do you like it?"
