Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will understand the concept of volunteering and its importance in society.

Materials and Prep

  • Construction paper
  • Crayons or markers
  • Scissors
  • Tape or glue
  • Books about volunteering (optional)

No prior knowledge or preparation is required for this lesson.

Activities

  1. Start by discussing the concept of volunteering with the student. Explain that volunteering means helping others without expecting anything in return. Give examples of different ways people can volunteer, such as helping at a food bank, cleaning up a park, or visiting elderly people in a nursing home.

  2. Ask the student to think about something they would like to do to help others. It could be as simple as drawing a picture for a friend or picking up trash in their neighborhood.

  3. Provide the student with construction paper, crayons or markers, and scissors. Instruct them to create a "Volunteering Poster" that shows their chosen activity. Encourage them to be creative and colorful.

  4. Once the poster is complete, help the student hang it up somewhere visible in your home. This will serve as a reminder of their commitment to helping others.

  5. If you have books about volunteering, read them together and discuss the stories. Talk about the characters' actions and how they made a difference in their communities.
