Objective

By the end of this lesson, Theo will be able to create colorful digital designs using various design programs while effectively matching colors using RGB formulas. He will gain hands-on experience with Paint 3D, GIMP, Photoshop, and an online Minecraft skin editor.

Materials and Prep

  • Computer with internet access
  • Paint 3D software
  • GIMP software
  • Photoshop software (if available)
  • Online Minecraft skin editor
  • Color wheel or RGB color chart (can be found online)

Before starting the lesson, ensure that all software programs are installed and functioning. Familiarize Theo with the basic interface of each program.

Activities

  • Color Matching Challenge: Theo will use the RGB color chart to practice matching colors in GIMP. He will select colors from the chart and recreate them using the RGB sliders in the software.

  • 3D Painting Adventure: In Paint 3D, Theo will create a simple 3D object (like a cube or sphere) and paint it using colors he has mixed using the RGB values. He can experiment with different shapes and designs.

  • Photoshop Fun: Theo will open Photoshop and create a digital poster using layers. He will apply different colors using RGB values and learn how to blend them for a smooth transition.

  • Minecraft Skin Design: Theo will use an online Minecraft skin editor to create a custom skin. He will apply colors based on the RGB values he learned and see how they look in the game.

  • "GIMP is like a magic toolbox for artists! You can edit photos and create amazing designs. Have you ever edited a photo?"
  • "Photoshop is super powerful! It helps you make professional-looking art. What would you like to create with it?"
  • "Creating a Minecraft skin is like designing your own character! What colors do you want to use for your skin?"
  • "Remember, practice makes perfect! The more you play with colors and shapes, the better you'll get!"
  • "What was your favorite part of today’s activities? Did you enjoy any program more than others?"
  • "Colors can change the mood of your design! What feelings do you want your colors to express?"
  • "Let’s keep experimenting with colors and designs! There’s always something new to create!"
